Several developments have taken place in Budapest along the Danube during the past years

An international conference was organised in Budapest in the frame of the Danube Strategy on 5-7 February. Dr. Balázs Szeneczey, Deputy Mayor for City Development made a speech at the event titled Pearl alley of Danube – towards Liveable Danube banks.

The Danube has essentially determined the urban structure and inner connections of Budapest, as well as the utilisation and development of its lands along the river bank. The proximity of water has always provided special, favourable opportunities, which were used differently during the city’s urban development, said Balázs Szeneczey. In connection with the utilization of waterfront areas the Deputy Mayor for City Development has also emphasized that there are many places disused for years, where since 2010 the capital city has made several actions to change this unfavourable status.

The shaping and development of the Danube promenade is an international macro project, a process lasting for years, which first will be based on the reference-solutions of partners from the concerned countries. The first Hungarian cooperation agreement has been signed on the 2013 travel exhibition of Hungary with the city of Kalocsa.
