Musical Budapest: free open-air mini concerts

Musical Budapest event at the Várkert Bazár

This year’s so-called Musical Budapest event series are organized for the third time in a row: almost 600 mini concerts, with more venues and offering a wide range of content; over this three-month period, prominent national performers will play in thirteen different spots of Budapest.

The audience will have the chance to listen to the first open-air concerts of the third season of Musical Budapest in May, the programme will end with performances scheduled for 18 August. The public will have the opportunity to enjoy 20-20 minute long free and live mini concerts.

Concert venues: the gloriette as well as the main entrance of Várkert Bazár, the balcony of the so-called House of Hungarians (Magyarság Háza) at Szentháromság square, the square in front of the St. Stephen’s Basilica, the courtyard of Vajdahunyadvár castle, the Musical Well (so-called Bodor-well or Zenélő kút) on Margaret Island, the stairs of the Kunsthalle (or Műcsarnok), the Deák square, the Vörösmarty square and the Kristóf square, new venues of this year are, however, the Central (Grand) Market Hall as well as the terrace of Gerbeaud Confectionery.

In the framework of the Musical Budapest event series, there will be almost a hundred musicians performing special chamber music repertoire, prepared specifically for this very occasion. They will play selected pieces, related to the above marvellous historic sites, the best pieces of art music of Liszt, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Paganini, Bizet, Verdi, Doppler, and Ravel.

Among the performing artists there are excellent Hungarian musicians and soloists, as well as musicians, being the member of excellent orchestras of Budapest, such as the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Danube Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Budapest, often playing chamber music together.

Thirteen different venues of Budapest offering programmes of different music genre. The concerts will be adapted to the venues.
