14th Christmas fair opened at Vörösmarty square

On November 16 opended the 14th Budapest Christmas Market at the Vörösmarty square. "Its a fair with a lot of cultural and gastronomic events" - said Zsófia Vitézy, managing director of the Budapest Festival and Tourism Center.

Juried artisan goods, culinary specialties, cultural performances are expecting the visitors at a total of 122 stands. You can taste the traditional Hungarian christmas specialities like fish, stuffed cabbage and goose liver. This year, at two stages performers entertain the audience with folk, jazz and etno music, with dance and puppet. The special guest of the fair is the 1000 years old Hungarian town Kalocsa well-known by its paprika and folk costumes.

"Budapest can be proud to  its chrismas fair”, said Deputy Mayor Miklós Csomós. He added that the fair can represent Hungarian gastronomy and crafts. The Deputy Mayor is confident that this will visit more than half-million visitors to the Vörösmarty square more than last year.

The Budapest event - which is similar to other European markets yet diifferent from them – was mentioned by The Sunday Times as one of Europe's best Christmas market , tha fair was int he Top 10 of the Travel & Leisure's list, the Times and the Daily Telegraph list as well.
