The City Diplomacy Unit is responsible for performing activities related to city diplomacy and international relations, particularly following tasks:

• develops and executes the City Diplomacy Strategy of the Municipality of Budapest, a unified concept of the Municipalities' international relations and its short and long-term plans

• proposes measures to deepen, develop, and expands the city's international relations

• prepares the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements that form the basis of the international relations system of the Municipality of Budapest and coordinates their implementation

• organizes the representation of the Municipality in international organizations, performs the tasks delegated by those organizations, coordinates the representation of the city in international events and the involvement and representation of the city in international networks

• organizes the program of foreign delegations coming to Budapest, coordinates city diplomacy events, prepares guidelines for the negotiations with high level foreign delegations

• organizes and coordinates the foreign travel and meetings of the Municipality of Budapest, supports the exchange of knowledge and experience between each professional field and their respective foreign partners

• maintains contact with the diplomatic corps accredited to Budapest, the representatives of international organizations, international non-governmental organizations, prominent foreigners living in Budapest, and the organizations representing them​

• ensures coordination in the field of international relations with the districts of the capital, the Hungarian government, other Hungarian cities, regions, and administrative units.
