Mayor István Tarlós has officially inaugurated the Széll Kálmán tér and the interconnected tram network of Buda. Passengers can use it since 10th May, however the official inauguration was held only after the last touches, which made it a European-level, modern junction point and meeting point, a high-quality, step-free and green public space.

hanks to the development of the interconnected tram network of Buda, the junction point offers new transfer-saving connections between the northern, central and southern part of Buda, as well as from Óbuda to Batthyány tér, Széll Kálmán tér, BAH-csomópont, Móricz Zsigmond körtér, Albertfalva, and Kelenföld stations.

"The City of Budapest has undertaken a huge challenge when at the beginning of last year it started the renewal of Széll Kálmán tér. The aim, which guided us, was to create such a European-standard, modern community space and traffic junction point, where it is good not only to pass through but also to rest and meet. All that we wished to accomplish by keeping the square's character, and therefore everything we liked about it so much, said István Tarlós. He added that the citizens of the capital could put the square in use much earlier, however the last works remained till now. The managed to reach the aim we have set – a square, fulfilling today's needs, was created that fits the image and mood of Budapest, emphasized the Mayor.

The Széll Kálmán tér has a central location, considering all significant aspects. Here we have the terminal of tram lines 4 and 6, and Metro Line 2 is also passing through it. The square is also a bus terminal, all lines coming from the northern and north-eastern peripheries end here, passenger transfer here towards the city center. From the tourists' point of view the square has a significant role as well, many lines heading up to Buda hills and to the Buda Castle depart from here.

Thanks to the interconnected tram network of Buda, the reshaped square provides new transfer connections, and besides the tram, metro, and bus lines there is now a MOL Bubi station as well, moreover a new bicycle road was built.
