Government supports the development of Budapest Zoo with twenty-five billion forints

​The government provides a twenty-five billion forint subsidy for the new area of Budapest Zoo, to be called the Pannon Park, pronounced Mayor István Tarlós, Zoltán Kovács government spokesperson and Miklós Persányi, director general of the Zoo, at the press conference.

- Following the realization of the multi-phase development plan of the project organically connecting to the renewal of Városliget (City Park), an unequaled zoo and an exhibition centre of European, moreover world standards will be created, said István Tarlós. The Mayor has thanked the government for its support towards the development concept. He also recalled that last year with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán they have already agreed on the cooperation between the city and government concerning the zoo, and this intention has been confirmed at the beginning of this year.

The zoo, which is one of the most renowned animal parks of Europe, will be 150 years old next year. Over the last hundred years it has attracted almost a hundred million visitors, and with that tit become by far the most visited national cultural site, which now has earned an enlargement of its area. In 2016 the Mesepark (Tale Park) will be inaugurated, and the Pannon Park complemented a spectacular biodome are expected to be completed by 2018-2019.
