Budapest, the City of Music: 520 mini concerts for three months at ten venues

The program series called “Budapest, the City of Music” is organized for the second time, in the frame of which the audience can listen to 15-20 minutes long free open-air concerts until the end of August, at ten different venues. The venues of the Budapest, the City of Music program are: the gloriette and neo-Renaissance court of Várkert Bazár, the balcony of House of Hungarians /Hungarian Heritage House/ at Szentháromság tér, the stairs of St. Stephen’s Basilica, the court of Vajdahunyadvár, the Musical well at Margaret Island, and this year’s new venue, the stairs of Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle Budapest) as well as the squares of Deák tér, Vörösmarty tér and Vigadó tér.

Altogether 80 musicians are performing chamber concerts, playing pieces, which were specifically written for this occasion and are also attached somehow to the venue. The repertoire selects the best pieces of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Chaikovszky, Chopin, Paganini, Bizet, Verdi, Doppler. The performing artists are members of distinguished orchestras of Budapest and regularly perform chamber music together. The represented orchestras are: the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Danube Symphonic Orchestra, the Hungarian Radio Symphonic Orchestra, the Concerto Budapest.
